The day Willow's family says everything changed.
The incident
The family alleges that Willow was pushed by another child during a peer interaction at the ABA facility. The facility later described the children as attempting to share marbles when the other child pushed Willow and she fell with her hands toward the floor. The precise staffing assignments, supervision positions, and response remain disputed.
At pickup
At or shortly after pickup, the family observed that Willow was crying, exhausted, protecting her left arm, and unable or unwilling to use it normally. The emergency medical history states that Willow had been asleep at pickup and began crying and grabbing her wrist shortly after waking.
Emergency treatment
Willow was admitted to Ascension Seton Bastrop at approximately 6:28 p.m. The emergency record documented:
- pain in the left wrist
- pain rated 6 out of 10 by the FLACC scale
- bruising
- swelling
- tenderness
- limited range of motion
Imaging documented:
- an acute buckle fracture of the distal radius
- a possible buckle fracture of the distal ulna
Treatment included:
- acetaminophen
- ibuprofen
- a sugar-tong splint
- a sling
- instructions for orthopedic and pediatric follow-up
What the family says it was not told
The family alleges that it was not notified when the incident occurred. The family further alleges that Willow remained at the facility for hours after the event without the family being told that she had fallen or might be injured.
